Price Breakdown:

$200 if you provide your own fabric ( you can bring your own fleece, vintage quilt or any jacket fabric of your choice)

$225 if I provide the fabric for you- we'll go through your options and decide on your favorite and a fabric you're most comfortable working with

*Have your own sewing machine? feel free to bring it! However, you do not need your own, machines will be provided. All tools will also be provided (thread, seam rippers, pattern, scissors, pins/clips, etc! 

6-Week Intermediate Sewing + Intro to Apparel Construction

Ready to turn your basic sewing skills into something you can actually wear?

This 6-week Intermediate Sewing Course is designed for sewists who already know their way around a sewing machine but are ready to take the next step into pattern reading, garment construction and apparel sewing. 

*note: If you completed our Intro to Basica sewing course by October 4th- you are ready and eligible for this course*

Throughout the six weeks, we’ll break the garment making process into approachable lessons while working toward our final project: your own wearable jacket!

Rather than simply following instructions from beginning to end, we’ll focus on understanding why garments are constructed the way they are. You will learn how to read a sewing pattern, identify garment pieces and markings, construct pockets, set sleeves, attach a collar, install a separating zipper, finish seams, hem, topstitch, and create a polished finished garment.

We’ll also spend time learning the basics of using a serger, including how it differs from a traditional sewing machine and how it can be used to create clean, professional looking seam finishes in apparel.

Sewing machine setup + refresher
Introduction to using a serger
Pattern reading + garment terminology
Understanding seam allowances, notches + markings
Professional seam finishing
Zipper practice + zipper foot basics
Installing a separating jacket zipper
Pocket construction + topstitching
Collar construction
Setting sleeves
Garment assembly
Hemming + finishing techniques
Pressing throughout garment construction

Experience Required

This course is not intended for complete beginners but you do not need extensive sewing experience.

Students should already be comfortable:

Threading their sewing machine without assistance
Winding + inserting a bobbin
Guiding fabric confidently through the machine
Sewing a basic straight stitch
Backstitching + securing seams
Working somewhat independently on their machine

You do NOT need previous experience reading sewing patterns, using a serger, installing zippers, or making clothing. Those are the skills we’ll be learning together!

If you know the basics of sewing but find yourself thinking, “I can use my machine, but I have no idea how to turn a pattern into an actual piece of clothing,” this course was made for you.
